Installing Cornices on
Curved Walls
When faced with curved walls often found in two story homes our
"Stepped Curve" offers a pleasing alternative to omitting the second floor lobby
entirely. This Stepped method gives the advantage of being able to compensate
for any irregularity in the radius of the wall.
Calculating angles for curved walls presents several
challenges, the radius angles at the top of the cornice is greater than the
radius at the bottom. For this reason, even if we did have flexible rubber
material available, it would not work. The only method is to cut and test
pieces 4 to 6" long one at a time, there is no miter
chart for this, simply trial, error.
Some of the photos are of cornice
just after installation and BEFORE painting. Once dapped, caulked and painted,
the joints and the shading are less noticeable.
